New shipwreck exhibit: “Out of the Depths”

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum recently opened a new exhibit called “Out of the Depths: Martha’s Vineyard Shipwrecks.” Focusing on the 1884 wreck of the City of Columbus and the 1909 wreck of the Port Huron, “Out of the Depths” includes dozens of artifacts, documents, and artwork [read: “shipwreck kitsch”] from the Vineyard’s many historic shipwrecks. Best of all, the exhibit concludes by showing visitors what the wrecks look like today–displaying “recent sonar studies” conducted by a pair of “local shipwreck gurus.” For a review see this. I can’t wait to visit in April!
